November Minutes

November 13, 2013 EMQG Meeting Notes

Presenters:  Phyllis and Diane

Minutes:  Karen

Swap
The November swap was a potholder.

The December swap is holiday, or a holiday ornament.

Discussion
Kelly and Jessica presented some information about joining the Modern Quilt Guild. We discussed the paperwork and financial requirements, as well as the additional structure it would add to our guild. One possible obstacle is getting people to volunteer to fill the positions needed to run our guild. It was suggested that perhaps two people could share a position.

It will cost about $15 a year, per member to join.

Benefits:

Discounts on events and activities

Resource: Information available on MQG’s website for members, such as forums, tutorials, challenges, swaps, shows & juried shows, opportunities to get on committees, an opportunity to combine new technology with quilting, access to teachers, a framework for leadership

We voted on whether or not to join, and the results:

YES:  27  Whoo hoo!

undecided:  2

no:  1

Next month we need to vote on new officers. The positions or titles may have to change once we officially join the MQG.

Several people mentioned that serving on the guild was a growing opportunity for them, and would like to see more people take advantage of the opportunity to volunteer for a position in 2014. Be prepared to volunteer!

We’re going to need:

Presenter (aka President)

Program director (aka Glorious Organizer)

Blogger/Web site

Photographer

Think about what you might like to do from the list above and leave a comment.  Madyson and Shawna were eager to team up for the blogger/web site position (thanks ladies!!).  Who else is willing to step up?

Bee
November is Phyllis’s bee month.

Show and Tell  (picture post to come)

Demo
Pat gave a demonstration on making postcards. She was inspired by the postcard display at the Sister’s Quilt Show, which inspired a swap for our group.

Post card demo file

If you’re participating in the next swap, you must MAIL a postcard to your recipient BEFORE our December meeting. (We exchanged names & addresses at our meeting)

Sew Day
November 23 at Our Sewing Room in Springfield

Upcoming Events
We’d like to make our December meeting a holiday or end-of-year party. Please bring refreshments.

Strip party for our December meeting. Bring 3 strips (or a group of 3 strips) to our meeting. The strips should be 2 ½” by WOF. We’ll play a dice game using the strips. This is an opportunity to get rid of some unwanted (ugly) fabric that’s taking up space in your stash.
